About Bedford

Bedford is the part of Westchester that never agreed to become a suburb. The Town of Bedford covers roughly forty square miles of hills, reservoir watershed and horse country, and the three hamlets inside it — Bedford Village, Bedford Hills and Katonah — are each distinct enough to trade separately. Bedford Village is the oldest and quietest of the three: a triangular green, a 1787 courthouse, and dry stone walls running along roads that were laid out for carriages. Four-acre zoning across much of the town has held the density down for a century, and the reservoir land the City of New York owns for its water supply cannot be built on at all. The result is a landscape that reads as rural at a forty-mile radius from Midtown.

We search Bedford on your behalf

We are not publishing our own listings here at present, and we would rather say so than fill the page. What we do instead is the more useful half: we search across public listings, professional member systems, broker relationships, and direct outreach. Bedford Central is geographically large and takes in Mount Kisco, Katonah and Bedford Hills alongside Bedford Village, so its district-wide figures describe a considerably broader population than the hamlet — including a four-year graduation rate lower than its immediate neighbours’.

Per-pupil expenditure is not published in a form we can verify, so we do not show a figure for it.

The Commute

Getting to Bedford

Metro-North
Bedford is on Metro-North’s Harlem Line, not the LIRR, and Bedford Village has no station of its own — the stops are at Bedford Hills and Katonah, a few minutes’ drive north. Grand Central runs roughly seventy minutes. Almost everyone drives to the platform, so parking permits are part of the calculation here in a way they are not further south.
By Car
I-684 runs up the eastern edge of the town with the Saw Mill and the Taconic to the west; Midtown is about an hour and a quarter off-peak. Greenwich and the Merritt Parkway are twenty minutes east, which matters for the households commuting to Connecticut rather than the city.
