About Wantagh
Wantagh was chartered as Jerusalem in 1666 and renamed in the nineteenth century for a Merokee sachem; it is known today as the gateway to Jones Beach, fifteen minutes down the parkway Robert Moses built for that exact purpose. The addresses that matter are in Mandalay, where canal streets open onto the Jones Beach Channel, and along the marina at Wantagh Park. Inland, the D section and Wantagh Woods hold the larger lots and the quieter blocks. The Babylon Branch reaches Penn Station in about forty-five minutes. Few places on Long Island put the ocean, the bay, and the train within this short a radius.
