About Garden City
Garden City is one of the very few American suburbs that was designed whole before a single house went up. Alexander Turney Stewart bought the open Hempstead Plains in 1869 and laid out broad tree-lined boulevards, generous setbacks and a cathedral at the centre, and the village has kept that plan with unusual discipline ever since. The streets are wide, the London planes and oaks along them are a century and a half old, and the commercial blocks are held to a few tight streets rather than allowed to spread. It is flat, walkable ground with no mapped flood exposure at all — a rarity in Nassau County — and the whole of it lies inside the incorporated village, which is why almost everything about it is decided locally.
Finding a residence in Garden City
We search Garden City on your behalf
We are not publishing our own listings here at present, and we would rather say so than fill the page. What we do instead is the more useful half: we search across public listings, professional member systems, broker relationships, and direct outreach. Non-public opportunities are subject to seller authorization and availability.
Tell us what you are looking for in Garden City and the search begins the same business day.

Rates are levied per $1,000 of full market value and shown here against the Garden City school district. This figure does not include special districts (fire, water, library, sanitation, ambulance); STAR, veterans, senior and other exemptions; the Incorporated Village of Garden City levies its own tax on top of this, and every address in Garden City is inside it — so this figure understates every parcel in the village, not merely some. We pull the actual bill for any specific parcel before you go to contract.

Getting to Garden City
- LIRR
- Three LIRR stations serve the village — Garden City and Nassau Boulevard on the Hempstead Branch, with Stewart Manor at the western edge — putting Penn Station and Grand Central around fifty minutes away by way of Jamaica. The Hempstead Branch is a change-at-Jamaica line rather than a one-seat ride, which is the honest trade against the shorter timings on the South Shore.
- By Car
- The Meadowbrook and Northern State Parkways are both minutes out, and Midtown is roughly fifty minutes off-peak by way of the Long Island Expressway. Roosevelt Field and the office concentration around it are close enough that a meaningful share of the village does not commute west at all.
